Close limit approximation for modified gravity: Scalar instabilities in binary black hole spacetimes

چکیده
The close limit approximation of binary black hole is a powerful method to study gravitational-wave emission from highly non-linear geometries. In this work, we use it as tool model spacetimes in theories gravity with new fundamental scalar degree freedom. As an example, consider Einstein-scalar-Gauss-Bonnet gravity, which admits solution the Schwarzschild geometry well holes hair. Accordingly, find perturbations growing unbounded around systems. This "dynamical scalarization" process easier trigger (i.e. occurs at lower values coupling constant theory) than corresponding for isolated holes. Our results and framework highlight role interaction during collision compact objects. They also emphasize importance having waveforms binaries alternative theories, order consistently perform tests beyond General Relativity.

String instabilities in black hole spacetimes.
We study the emergence of string instabilities in D dimensional black hole spacetimes (Schwarzschild and Reissner Nordstrøm), and De Sitter space (in static coordinates to allow a better comparison with the black hole case). We solve the first order string fluctuations around the center of mass motion at spatial infinity, near the horizon and at the spacetime singularity. We find that the time ...

متن کاملEvolution of binary black-hole spacetimes.
We describe early success in the evolution of binary black-hole spacetimes with a numerical code based on a generalization of harmonic coordinates. Indications are that with sufficient resolution this scheme is capable of evolving binary systems for enough time to extract information about the orbit, merger, and gravitational waves emitted during the event. As an example we show results from th...
متن کاملNew classes of black hole spacetimes in 2+1 gravity
The electrogravity transformation is applied to the three-dimensional Einstein field equations to obtain new multi-parameter families of black hole solutions. The Bañados-Teitelboim-Zanelli black hole is shown to be a special case of one of these families. The causal structure, associated matter, as well as the mechanical and thermodynamical properties of some of the solutions are discussed. 04...
متن کاملFalloff of the Weyl scalars in binary black hole spacetimes
The peeling theorem of general relativity predicts that the Weyl curvature scalars Ψn (n = 0, . . . , 4), when constructed from a suitable null tetrad in an asymptotically flat spacetime, fall off asymptotically as rn−5 along outgoing radial null geodesics. This leads to the interpretation of Ψ4 as outgoing gravitational radiation at large distances from the source. We have performed numerical ...
